Back for the Day

"Homework Sucks!" It still holds true to this day and I apolize that homework, life, and work have taken over and there has not been a blog since. Today, however, is a special day. It is Grandpa Ronnie's Birthday! Happy Birthday to someone who has helped to shape my life and me into the person I am today. He is a person who has always been there for me and supported me. Thank you so much and I hope today has been a wonderful day.

While I have never been a person who can share my feelings through word of mouth, I do believe I am able to write it out. Slowly in my time in college that has started to evolve and change. This last weekend I spoke in front of 700 hundred students from Michigan, Ontario, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana at the GLACURH conference. During that weekend I was on the phone for 2 and half hours answering all kinds of random questions. I networked with students from over 55 schools and two countries. Needless to say I have grown and developed during my lifetime. If you would have been telling me that I would do this today back in elementary school, the shy guy that I was would say never in a million years.

As Grandpa's birthday comes to an end and the Thanksgiving holiday comes closer, I want to thank you to all of those people who have supported me and been there for me over the years. You have given me so many great opportunities! I love you all! And remember to Stay Classy!

Homework sucks. Let’s face it, but this Sunday we were all hanging out in one room and it didn’t seem all that bad. We were able to group together to laugh and joke while working. I was really proud to see that this group had developed in a way that allowed us all to have a relationship that doesn’t need full attention. I am so happy to have people that will support me in my academics and social life.

My favorite movie is the Departed and tonight the hall gathered in Natalie’s room to watch it. While I was working the whole time, I realized how awesome of a life I have. These people are just so special and I love the way that we can always come together to do stuff. This hall is the best hall in the world and I only see great things ever coming from them.

This morning I woke up the same way as I do every Friday to open the door for Sherri the cleaning lady to come in and clean. Today, however, was not normal. When I awoke I found a text from Donelle asking if I was awake. Of course I went to her room as quickly as I could. You see her chair had shorted out on her and she was being told that she would be stuck without a chair for a week. To put this in perspective say your car stopped working. How are you going to go to work? How about groceries? How about all your daily needs? This is what she was going through. That’s when I realized instead of sleeping, I needed to be there for her. I can comfort people and that is what I did. I was inspired to know that she called me to comfort her. She felt like I could calm her down and I am glad I could be there for her.

Today I was posted in a note on Facebook that really just made my day. I think you will see why

“I appreciate all the support you have given me. I can't believe how much we accomplished doing the mentor program! All I have to say is that was all us and you know it! We deserve the recognition. I hope to see you get more involved on campus, I think that people really enjoy your inspirational presence. Thanks for always being willing to give encouragement!”

Today I opened the paper and all of my dreams came true. My horoscope said that I was supposed to have a 9 day so I was all about living my day to the fullest and just smiling and being happy. I never really realized it, but if I am told it’s going to be a great day then I really try to make it that way. I need to keep waking up and thinking it will be a ten. It’s going to be a great day!

It’s weird to think that I was inspired by this, but today I watched as a teacher yelled at a student. I don’t know if inspire is really the word to describe it, but I was changed. When you have power in a situation there is no reason to raise your tone or to even yell at the people that are under you. The teacher has the ability to set the mood and this man really did not do that. He made it clear that he was not willing to be helpful or even respect the students. It really showed me that there is a time to draw the line and the sooner you are able to do that the better you will be at being a leader.

I love getting emails from keynote speakers and with it being Valentine’s Day I received an email about what love really is. It’s not all about only having one person or getting gifts. No it stands for: Lots Of Varied Experiences. You see we are all just going through this life and doing a lot of random things with people that we really care about. That is what it is all about. Living a life to the fullest with people that you care about surrounding you. I hear so often from people who think they are not loved and I simply say “NO”. If I am listening to you then you are loved. Everyone around you loves you and will always be there for you. You are loved.

Time flies when you are having fun. For the longest time I have heard this quote and never thought about it, but it is so true. Every weekend it is the same. I get to Sunday night and I realize that all I did was have fun and it just goes by so fast. Maybe that is why the days keep going by so fast. I am having so much fun with the people around me and I couldn’t be happier. This motivates me to keep working so I am able to have the fun time. Thanks everyone, let’s keep the fun times rolling.
